Summer Boardgames

Summer is the time for boardgames with my brother-in-law (14 games of Carcassonne and I lost the last five or six...).


How to play zombies without minis? All Things Zombie (ATZ) the boardgame is perfect to introduce ATZ the miniature game:


2012/02/20

A bad encounter (Two cops in Zombieland #4)

After having found a shotgun and a bus, our heroes decided to quit the town center, full of zombies now. As stated in the rule, when you change area you have to roll for an encounter (Random Road Encounters, ATZ, p56.). Christophe rolled an ambush (by a gang of five)... Here is the set up:



I decided to keep the characters (Jaqen, Isaac and Gloria) in the bus.

A lot of zombies were attracted by the noise. I count on them to ambush the ambushers!


At first all went well: the ambushers were charged by zombies and killed. But I rolled four "6" for the next four activations (!!), so impossible to move (but not to fire with our shotguns when charged by zombies...). With so much noise, zombies were everywhere!



Fortunately we managed to flee (with a lot of successful Lose Control tests).

Special rule to play zombies' assault on the bus: each zombie in contact with the bus rolls one die ; each survivor in the bus rolls one die. We count successes. If the zombies roll more, the number of successes exceeding is the number of zombies in the bus. If so, the survivors have to roll a Being charged test.

A shotgun and a bus (Two cops in Zombieland #3)

After saving Gloria (see Two cops in Zombieland #2), Isaac's wife, the four heroes (Isaac, Jaqen, Rick and Gloria) decided to look for weapons. What a better place to find them than the police station. So they took their police cruiser and headed toward the building.


They decided to stop before the police station to make as little noise as possible.

Rick and Jaqen entered the building, meanwhile Gloria and Isaac were keeping guard.

The police station wasn't empty and our heroes met old colleagues and... (after a few dice rolls) ... friends (neutral).

Rick and Jaqen managed to find only one shotgun...  Suddenly, a car (with a fleeing family onboard) crossed the area, attracting a lot of zombies (a very nasty random event).

It's impossible to get to our car! Fortunately Rick managed to start a bus (a new home...) and we fled with a shotgun and a bus...

Things are getting ugly (Two cops in Zombieland #2)

The next installment of our ATZ campaign was played a few time ago. We were four (Christophe who is managing the campaign, Antoine, Eric and me). I played Jaqen Gilgenprantz (REP4), Antoine, Isaac Clifford (REP4) and Eric, a new recruit, Rick Planters (REP4, Born Leader). Previously we tried to protect a quarantined area.

This time, in the first scenario of the night, we had to disperse a rioting mob (Riot, Haven p. 11).




With tear gas followed by a charge it was a piece of cake:

This scenario is very chaotic (we loved that) and handling the mob isn't always as easy, but we were lucky except Jaqen who was wounded.

The second scenario of the night was situated at Outbreak+11. Now riots are breaking all around the town and The National Guard was called. As Police is no longer able to perform its duty, our three heroes decided to go by themselves. Their first mission was to seek Isaac's wife, Gloria.



Driving to Isaac's building is noisy, so Z are coming...



Since this scenario was improvised, Christophe used the random events table from the Protection scenario (Haven, p.17). Thugs in a van crossed our path and fired at us (without effect). The gunfight attracted more Z. But we managed to catch Gloria and flee.

Our team has a few weapons, a police cruiser (with 3 units of Fuel), one unit of Food and nothing more...

Two cops in Zombieland

We started an ATZ campaign featuring cops (Haven supplement, p. 5). Our two heroes are Jaqen Gilgenkrantz (REP4 - Brawler, Athlete, Flirty) and Isaac A. Clifford (REP4 - Stone Cold, Transporter, Child of Heart). These two cops are presented (in french) on Christophe's blog (since it's his campaign): here.
We played two scenarios. 

# In the first one, Isaac and Jaqen met their first zombies after having been called for an ambulance accident.

# The second scenario we played is from the Haven supplement: Quarantine.
"You and your fellow police officer are assigned to patrol the edge of an area that has been quarantined by County Health officials"(p.7).

We managed to guard the area but Jaqen fled like a coward... (in a few days all this will be forgotten).

ATZ : SAFE ZONE ?

DAY 27

Roger Bonaventure a récupéré de ses blessures.
Il faut partir à la base 511 pour trouver des réponses à cette catastrophe. Il y a des chances d'y trouver aussi Amber afin de lui faire la peau.
Roger avait remarqué, sur un plan dans le Hummer, une Zone d'Evacuation en banlieue de San Diego. L'endroit idéal pour emprunter un hélicoptère afin de se rendre au plus vite à la base 511. Rapidement sur place Roger & Smokey se cachent dans une maison en ruine en dehors de la zone d'évacuation qui est maintenant bouclée. Il y a bien un hélicoptère sur la base mais comment entrer ? Une bande de gangers (les Sons of Anarchy) vont provoquer, bien involontairement, une diversion...

Roger Bonaventure has recovered from his injuries.
We must go the base 511 for answers to this disaster. There, we are also likely to find Amber to make her pay.
Roger has noticed, on a map in the Hummer, an Evacuation Zone in suburban San Diego. The perfect place to find an helicopter to get to the base 511. Quickly on the spot, Roger & Smokey are hiding in a ruined house outside the evacuation zone. There is a helicopter on the base but how getting in ? A band of gangers (Sons of Anarchy) will cause, though unintentionally, a diversion ...


Le scenario s'inspire de SAFE ZONE (Haven, p. 32). Le Random Encounter "Gangers" est joué en premier puis tous les autres s'ils sont déclenchés. Roger & Smokey doivent s'infiltrer avant l'évènement "Z - Armageddon".

The scenario is based on SAFE ZONE (Haven, p. 32). The Random Encounter "Gangers" is played first then all others if they are triggered. Roger & Smokey must infiltrate before the event Z - Armageddon appears.





Une bande de gangers cherche à pénétrer dans la base pour la piller. Drogués et à moitié fous ils ne réalisent pas le danger. Leur chef (REP 5) conduit le tracteur.

A band of gangers seeks to enter the base to plunder. Drugged and half mad they do not realize the danger. Their leader (REP 5) is driving the tractor.



Le bruit des moteurs attirent les Zeds. Les militaires commencent à tirer. Ils ne perçoivent le tracteur comme une menace que trop tard. il percute la barrière suivi par les motards. Mais ces derniers sont rapidement éliminés par les tirs des militaires.

Engine noise attracts a lot of Zeds. The soldiers start shooting. They don't perceive the tractor as a threat until too late. It strikes the barrier followed by motorcyclists. They are quickly eliminated by military gunfire.








Les soldats ont du mal à contenir la horde de Zeds qui s'approche.

The soldiers are struggling to contain the horde of approaching Zeds.



Roger et Smokey profitent du chaos pour escalader le mur et traverser le camp des civils.

Roger and Smokey take advantage of the chaos to climb the wall and cross the civilian camp.



Roger et Smokey s'approchent furtivement des pilotes et arrivent à les convaincre (RECRUITING, Haven p. 35) de les suivre. De toutes façons ici c'est la fin, l'évènement Z Armageddon vient d'apparaître : les Zeds sont dans la base !

Roger and Smokey stealthily approach the pilots and manage to convince them (RECRUITING Haven p. 35) to get out. Anyway here is the end, the event Z Armageddon just appeared: the Zeds are in the base!







L'hélicoptère parvient à décoller à temps et se dirige maintenant vers la base 511.

The helicopter managed to take off on time and is now heading towards the base 511.
